About Lake Morey State Park

Lake Morey State Park is a 1,000-acre public recreation area located in Fairlee, Vermont, along the northern shore of the 1,276-acre Lake Morey. The park is set within the larger Lake Morey Recreation Area and is managed by the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation. The geography includes mixed hardwood and softwood forests, wetlands, and the lake’s clear waters. The area supports a variety of wildlife such as deer, waterfowl, and amphibians, as well as abundant fish species in the lake, including bass, trout, and perch.

Historically, the land has transitioned from agricultural use to a protected area aimed at outdoor recreation and conservation. The park provides a range of recreational opportunities including swimming on the sandy beach, boating with a boat launch and rentals, fishing, and picnicking. The park features 32 tent and RV campsites and several lean-tos for overnight visitors. More than 30 miles of maintained hiking and biking trails wind through woodlands and along the lake’s shoreline, suitable for all skill levels. During winter, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are popular.

Community events and educational programs occur seasonally, making the park appealing to families and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Key landmarks include the scenic fireplace pavilion with lake views and the boat launch area, which serves as a gateway to exploring Lake Morey’s extensive shoreline. The park’s combination of water-based activities and forested trails attracts a steady flow of visitors throughout the year.
